Junior Engineering and Video Game Making

This year we are pleased to partner with 'All About Learning' to bring you two new and exciting day camps! These camps begin on June 17th and run until June 20th. These are commuter camps.  We will be featuring Junior Engineering and Video Game Making camps.

Junior Engineering
Dates: June 17-20 9am-12pm
Grades: 1st-3rd
Cost: $130

The Junior Engineering camp is a hands-on learning camp. Students are able to create and modify machines through basic engineering skills using unique LEGO® kits. The camp strives to give campers a grasp of basic engineering principles, simple machines, forces in motion, and problem solving.

Video Game Making

Dates: June17-20 9am-12pm
Grades: 4th-8th
Cost: $130

Video Game Making is designed to teach students how to design and modify their own arcade style games. Through the creative process students learn how to control characters, objects, and outcomes of the game. They are guided though the process of how to increase difficulty levels and add more features. This camp is designed to give students an understanding of basic programming skills, creation of avatars and assignment of actions, building of rooms and levels, scoring, and timing of events.

Photography

Photography
July 21-26
Grades 9-12

When it comes to photography gone are the days of ‘point and shoot.’ With all of today’s new technology and cameras smarter than some phones it’s hard to maintain knowledge and perfect the art of photography. That’s where Superior Edventures comes in to help. Our campers get a chance to explore their passion for photography here in the beautiful Upper Peninsula. Several unique photojournalism opportunities are presented during our crash course week. Students are given a chance to photograph waterfalls, wildlife, and so much more here in the area surrounding Sault Ste. Marie. In order to get the perfect shot campers are taught the dynamics of their cameras, lighting effects, and we strive for proficient understanding on aperture and shutter settings. Some time will be spent working with editing software so students can perfect the shots they have. This week long camp strives to give students a hands on chance to improve their passion. So if you’ve got a little shutterbug who’s just dying to learn more and want to give them a chance to get the perfect ‘Pure Michigan’ shot, look no further than Superior Edventures’ Photography Camp. Dance Camp

Dance
July 21-26

Grades 7-12

Our dance camp here at Superior Edventures is designed to give campers a hands on look at many different types of dance. While working with Lake State professors and dance students campers are able to hone their skills in ballet and pointe all the while concentrating on their strength and flexibility. We give our campers a chance to work on the elements of modern dance such as kinesthetic movement, emotion based movement, and applied floor and partner work. Working in our dance rooms here at Lake State campers get a chance to experience what it is like for a dance student here at LSSU. The camp all culminates with a final performance at the LSSU Fine Arts Center on the last day. This gives campers an opportunity to show off their new skills learned here at camp as well as perform under the bright lights of the LSSU stage. Forensic Science

Forensic Science
July 14-19
Grades 6-8
Crime solving, evidence collecting, laboratory analysis, all that and more combine to make up Superior Edventures’ forensic science camp. A mock crime scene is prepared for our students and they spend the week trying to solve the crime. Instructors take different days to demonstrate and explain different crime solving strategies. Students are given the chance to work in the science labs of Lake Superior State University and get a five day crash course into the field of forensic science. The hands on learning approach allows our students to get a true feel for the field and gain better understanding through the hands on approach. Campers are given the opportunity to run different analyses of different samples such as blood, hair, and fingerprints. The week of collection and analysis all culminate on the final day when they present in a mock court case and act as real CSI professionals presenting evidence. Field Ecology & Enviromental Science

Field Ecology & Environmental Science
July 21-26
Grades 9-12

Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is perfect for exploring and learning. That’s why we at Superior Edventures are so lucky to call this beautiful area our home. Give your little adventurer a chance to learn and grow this summer in our Field Ecology and Environmental Science camp.  This camp gives students a full five days of hands on learning and fun both in the field and in our state of the art science labs here at Lake Superior State University. Activities include plant and animal identification, habitat analysis, stream quality assessment, night time insect trapping, and much more. We allow our campers to work in the fields in order to collect samples that they later use and analyze in our labs with the help of accredited Lake State professors. We allow our campers to analyze data in our computer labs and learn how GIS and other computer applications aid in the fields of ecology and conservation biology. For more information on this camp or others please www.lssu.edu/summercamps or call (906) 635 6673.
